The G6, the Grand Am's replacement will be available this summer in dealerships as a coupe. Similarly to the sedan, the G6 coupe will receive the 3.5L V6 engine that puts out 200 hp. As well, a GTP version will be offered and it will a 3.9L V6, this time developing 240 hp. The GTP will available with either a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic with manual mode transmissions. Also, Pontiac has confirmed the arrival of the G6 convertible. It sports a retractable hardtop similar to those found on many Mercedes-Benz products, and will be available at the same time as the coupe.

Auto123.com's impressions:

Much more attractive than the Grand Am, the G6 is more distinctive than other GM products. The coupe, according to Pontiac people, is supposed to add a touch exoticism to the line up. Unfortunately, when I look at the spec sheets of an "all-new" sporty G6 and still see over-head-valve engines, I find myself cringing. OHC, DOHC and multi-valve engines are proven to be more efficient when comparing displacement and output numbers. Imagine what Honda or Nissan could do with 3.9L... 340 hp? Someone should tell GM that multi-valve engines are not reserved for Cadillac and Kia.
