Honda has now introduced their much-anticipated Ridgeline pickup.

The only available engine will be a 255-hp 3.5-litre V6 mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. It will feature Honda's VTM-4 four-wheel-drive system found in the Pilot, VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) and traction control. Honda claims that the Ridgeline is the most frugal pickup in its category. It is also the first such vehicle to be rated as a ULEV (Ultra Low-Emissions Vehicle).

Other safety features will include side airbags and side-curtain airbags and a tire-pressure monitoring system. The Ridgeline's towing capacity is rated at 5 000 lbs which should sufficient for the average buyer.

The Ridgeline has a 5-foot long bed that is extendable by folding down the cab's rear panel. The liftgate has a very neat feature where it can be opened in one of two ways: It can swing down or sideways. The cargo floor has a storage bin that is large enough to carry 3 golf bags.

Price: from $34,800 for the LX up to $43,900 for the EX-L Navi
Availability: April 2005

Auto123.com's impressions

The Ridgeline is the answer to the question that no one really asked: Does the world need another pickup? The largest obstacle to overcome for potential buyers will be its looks and its lack of macho-maness.
