The 2006 Range Rover receives very few minor exterior upgrades such as the grille and bumpers and some new 18 and 19-inch wheels. The real changes occur have to do with the heart of the beast. The revised Range Rover will now be delivered with two distinct motors. The first is the same 4.4L V8 inherited from BMW that now develops 305 hp. The kicker is the Jaguar derived supercharged 400 hp 4.2L V8 that will be optional with the Rover and standard with the Rover Sport. This new engine will compete with the BMW X5 4.8iS and the Mercedes G55 AMG.

Speaking of the Range Rover Sport, its mission is to attract potential buyers of GT SUVs. Available with the same engines as the "regular" Range Rover, the Sport is distinguished by sportier lines inspired by last year's Ranger Stormer unveiled in Detroit. The new Range Rover is built on a lightly modified LR3 platform.
