Lexus has taken the wraps off their revamped 2006 GS sedan. Its styling is not as innovative as the previous generation but its lines remain very elegant. There are 2 engines offered: an all-new 245 hp 3.0L V6 and the powerful 300 hp 4.3L V8. The GS 300 will have an AWD version where as the GS 430 will only be delivered in RWD form. They also announced plans for a GS450 Hybrid that should be produced in the near future. Transmitting power to the drive-wheels will be an all-new 6-spped sequential shift automatic transmission. The GS 430 will be equipped with Lexus's Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system. It will monitor a slew of sensors and attempt to anticipate vehicle stability problems with the goal of correcting them through throttle and braking inputs.

Price for GS 300 base RWD: $64,300
              GS 300 AWD: $66,700
              GS 430 RWD: $74,700
Availability: March 2005

Auto123.com's impressions:

I can't help but point at the fact that the new GS is a kind nod to Infiniti's G35. Body lines are very similar and the rear-end reminds me of the Maxima... Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, as they say. The last GS was an interesting alternative to a 5-series BMW but it never really broke through. This one just might.
