Next Friday, February 9th 2007, will mark the official opening of the 99th edition of the Chicago Auto Show. The first event took place way back in 1901 and was held at a place called the Coliseum. What is interesting to note is that all cars back then were steered by tiller, quite a far cry from today's variable assist electric power steering.

Team auto123.com has been invited to cover this year's show. We will be arriving in time for the Press Preview days that will be held on the 7th and 8th day of this month. Once the floodgates open, the show expects to be visited by some 1 million visitors until the doors close on the 18th.

This event takes place at Chicago's McCormick Place, the largest convention centre in North America, located in the heart of the Windy City. 1.3 million sq. feet of the recently renovated Place will be covered with over 1,000 new cars, trucks and concepts. The Chicago auto show is growing in size and importance every year and many consider that it might even be bigger than Detroit in 2007. We will comment on this once the Press days have past given that we were present in Detroit.

Stay tuned for complete coverage over the following week. As the days go by, we will bring you nibblets of information concerning the unveilings as they become available to us. Afterwards, we will provide you with more complete details during the Press days.
