Underpinnings are comprised of front MacPherson struts, and of course that solid rear axle. The addition of a Panhard rod improves lateral stiffness and helped prevent any truck-like skittering.

Unlike its ancestors, this Mustang stops as well as it goes, courtesy of four-wheel antilock vented discs with twin-piston front and single-piston rear calipers. Fuel consumption for the week averaged 14.0 L/100 km (city) and 8.8 L/100 km (highway).

The tailpipes emit an exquisite melody.

Oh! That rumble...

Much has been said of the glorious exhaust note. Engineers at Ford reportedly spent long hours tuning the pipes for just the right sound.

And boy, did they get it right.

Stepping on the gas produces a deep, throaty growl that's a virtual mating-call for a car guy (or girl). When the tach reached 4,000 RPM, there was a sonic boom that resonated throughout the cabin, making me wonder if, somewhere in that maze of mandrel-bent polished steel, some kind of giant metallic reed was vibrating to produce such glorious music.

Now for those who don't appreciate the song of a muscle car in full cry, that constant sound could perhaps become a bit wearing.

I find that hard to imagine.

Head-turning looks, fun to drive

Visibility, rear passenger seating.

None that I can think of.
