The adventurer turns to diesel
We can also opt for the better-equipped Limited, which includes leather seats, for a few thousand dollars more. Finally, the luxurious Overland, which offers several interior trims as well as an infotainment system including satellite radio, will also be offered with the CRD, but will have a final tab of over $55,800, or $1,500 more than a Grand Cherokee with the gas HEMI engine.

It's probably the high purchase price (even the Laredo costs $48,750) that might prevent cool down the diesel enthusiasts. Even if, according to the manufacturer's calculations, and with an approximate 30% savings in fuel, it would take under three years to recover the additional investment.

Do you want HEMI torque but do not want to pay high gas bills? Get with the diesel.

It's a Jeep, first and foremost

The CRD shows no shortage in power, and we quickly feel the available torque as soon as we touch the gas pedal. It drives just like any other Grand Cherokee. There is a slight noise level, inevitable with a diesel powertrain, but we rapidly forget about it. We'll need more time on the road than a few dozen kilometers in order to evaluate the Grand Cherokee CRD. Let's just say that this first contact with the vehicle makes us think that it has a bright future.
