The steering is less nervous than an MX5's, and the ride proves considerably more civilized than the S2000's, though Z4 feels easily as sporty as both of these legendary, track-ready roadsters. It offers more comfort and utility to boot-but it's given up nothing in the handling and stability department to enable a more decent overall ride.

Hold on tight over uneven surfaces though, as the wide tires try to explore every nook and cranny they get close to.

Starting price is $55,400, though the loaded tester carried a sticker of $65,300.

Building it
Starting price is $55,400, though the loaded tester carried a sticker of $65,300- fitted with goodies like a power-folding top, auto-dimming mirrors, power seats, automatic climate control and a sport handling package.

It's far from the most affordable way to get that wind in your hair, but it is one of the most beautiful roadster experiences going.
