Lights, camera, action...it's the new Infiniti EX35

Santa Monica, California - Lots of people head to Southern California for the bright lights of Hollywood, to seek fame and fortune, or maybe, just to cruise the miles and miles of sandy beaches and take in all those lovely tanned Californian models.

Me, well, I'm here to see all that too! But most importantly, to see the latest beauty hit the streets and to witness the career launch of what I believe to be one of the hottest new models this year.

The EX35 brings a wave of freshness in the crossover segment.

Now when I say model, I'm not talking of some long-legged, thin as a rake super-model who looks like she hasn't had a good meal in years, and would fall over if you as much as blew in her ear.

No, I'm talking of the latest model from Infiniti, the EX35 crossover, which is due to hit your local showroom sometime in December this year.

To be truthful, to call this simply a crossover doesn't quite cut it, and in some ways does it an injustice, as that description would lead you to believe that it was just another of the downsized SUV type vehicles which are becoming very popular nowadays.

Well it isn't! What it is, is something else altogether, and I believe what I have just witnessed will change the crossover market forever.

You see, up until now, when we think of a "crossover", we envision an SUV-like fwd/awd vehicle, with perhaps a slightly more car-like stance, a mild form of SUV, if you like.

The EX35 is actually nothing like that, and yet at the same time it is, in certain ways.

I know, I'm starting to confuse you now, but just imagine that someone took some of the best features of an SUV (like headroom and elbow space), mixed in a healthy amount of luxurious sports coupe (think low ride height, aerodynamic styling and copious amounts of wood and leather), and then add a decent bit of carrying capacity (more than just one or two suitcases).

Yet amazingly, while Infiniti did all of this, it managed to steer well clear of the traditional station wagon look.

View from the side, the EX resembles its FX brother.
