Plain yet modern
Inside, every Mazda3 gets the same mostly black dashboard. The orange backlighting adds a certain modern feel to the interior, but designers went a bit over the top with lights that blink according to the volume of the stereo.
The seat cushions are comfortable and the multiple adjustments at our disposal make it possible to find a good driving position. Rear passengers don't have the same luck, as legroom is limited and the rear bench is a tad stiffer.
The Mazda3 isn't perfect, obviously, but it still shines among the current crop of compact sedans, even a couple of years after its market introduction and probably a few months prior to its redesign. When was the last time you actually had fun behind the wheel of a small car? The Mazda3 is no doubt a pleasant performer.
