The 6-speed manual transmission really gets the most out of the powerplant. For those who thought I only liked big, ultra-potent machines, you were wrong. I became fond of this exquisite gearbox, which allowed me to zip through traffic like the wind. Handling is exceptional and road-holding capacity is flawless. The Cooper S Clubman feels even more planted than the short-wheelbase model.
A love affair
I'll say it just to be clear: I loved the 2008 MINI Cooper S Clubman -- just like I always loved sitting behind the wheel of the regular MINI. Beyond the comfort level (surprisingly good) and the overall styling (remarkably attractive), it's the combination of looks, appeal, performance and excitement that won me over. And let's not forget the added room for passengers. Quite impressive for such a small car...
