So long, old friend
Inside the Grand Prix, you'll find a driver-oriented dashboard that's far from the best in the business. It's a little misaligned, squeaks from time to time and is moulded in a dark grey colour, while the door-mounted controls look 20 years old. Yet there are numerous adjustable air vents, and the radio and HVAC controls are straightforward.

Inside the Grand Prix, you'll find a driver-oriented dashboard.

The Grand Prix's seats are very comfortable, because their cushions are soft and you feel as though you just sat down on your living room sofa. But they are also supportive, and great for long-distance cruises. The rear bench seat is also soft, so you'll actually sit a little lower than expected. Rear-seat headroom is limited, due to the sloping roofline.

Competition
The 2008 Grand Prix has a base price of $26,230. It comes with a reasonably-long list of standard equipment, but ABS brakes, leather, a sunroof, climate control, a navigation system and side-curtain airbags are all on the options list. A GXP model is also available with a 303-hp V8 and costs $36,760 and up.

Here are some of the Grand Prix's rivals, equipped with V6 engines:
Chevrolet Malibu 2LT V6, $29,495
Chrysler Sebring Touring, $25,795
Ford Fusion SEL V6, $29,399
Hyundai Sonata GL V6, $27,795
Kia Magentis LX-V6, $24,195
Mitsubishi Galant GT, $27,998
Toyota Camry LE V6, $28,235

There are many other mid-size sedans, like the Honda Accord or the new Mazda6, but they're sportier than the Grand Prix and don't quite target the same type of customer.

Conclusion
Another chapter in GM's history book is about to close, as the Grand Prix won't be around much longer. Since GM has been planning the arrival of the rear-wheel drive G8 for a while now, the Grand Prix hasn't received any improvements since 2005, and has long been outgunned in the mid-size sedan category.

The 2008 Grand Prix has a base price of $26,230.
