To tell you the truth, I'm somewhat biased toward the Impreza WRX. I love its ideal dose of power, solid handling and comfortable ride. Plus, the fully redesigned WRX is decidedly stylish with its new dress. For 2008, engineers aimed to make this sporty Subaru moreĀ civilized. Obviously, a few compromises had to be made...

Still one of the favorites among thrill-seeking car enthusiasts.

Two body styles

Available in 4- and 5-door body styles, the new Impreza WRX is based on the same platform as the Legacy (25-mm longer wheelbase) and therefore offers more interior room than ever before.

This car still sports an unmistakeable air intake -- now better integrated to the hood. I prefer the hatchback model because I find it to be more low-profile than its sedan counterpart. The latter is bolder with its huge rear spoiler on top of the trunk. The hatchback, meanwhile, only features a small roofline-integrated spoiler. Those who wish to stand out should choose the sedan. Overall, the new lines still make heads turn and nod.

Redesigned interior
The interior offers easy access and accommodates four adults. However, the same complaint that I made about the regular Impreza applies to the WRX: the front passenger seat is too low, although side support is very good. In the back, I would have liked more room to put my feet underneath the front seat.

The 2008 model is finally up-to-date thanks to multiple bins and cupholders. You can store your sunglasses and portable computer while always keeping an eye on them. The doors now incorporate decent pockets to hold your bottles and road maps.

Interior fit and finish is nice. Music lovers will also appreciate the quality sound system with 6-CD changer and auxiliary input jack. This 6-speaker unit (including one subwoofer) delivers a rich sound thanks to good soundproofing materials. That said, tire noise can become really annoying with the WRX.

The dashboard benefits from a much anticipated and well executed update.
