On the road, the commanding sedan seems to be floating on a cloud, neutralizing the worst bumps and potholes with disconcerting ease. Although braking and cornering require some persuasion due to the vehicle’s weight and size, daily driving proves effortless and relaxing. Plus, the all-wheel drive system of my tester acted with total transparency and effectiveness.
Class and comfort
It goes without saying that the LS has no intentions of becoming a race car. Beyond its run-of-the-mill design (oddly similar to the smaller ES by the way), this full-size Lexus represents the pinnacle of personal transportation -- comfortable and to the point.
Occupants are treated to multi-way power-adjustable seats that offer generous support, a nice multimedia system that includes a very accurate navigation device, and unsurpassed fit and finish working to create an understated yet impeccable decor.
It’s a fact that the company’s primary objective with regard to the interior was to meet the needs of the most demanding passengers. Invisible yet reliable technology is packaged around this comfortable, ergonomic and roomy environment.
As I’ve said many times, the 2009 Lexus LS 460 is not designed for driving enthusiasts, unlike a number of rivals in the premium full-size segment. This prestigious Japanese offering banks on comfort and refinement, and from that standpoint, it’s a definite success.
