Repositioning a Premium Domestic
The instrument panel employs reduced-breakline engineering to create unbroken architectural flows. All controls are nicely positioned, attractive and pleasing to use. Leg and headroom at all seating positions is outstanding, and the climate controlled front seats are heavenly. The supple hides are supplied by Bridge of Weir Leather of the UK - suppliers to the rich and famous one might say.

Trunk volume is outstanding. Regrettably, a short deck lid results in a small aperture through which to feed goods into the vast chamber.

MKS laden with latest info/entertainment technology
It's hard to know where to begin in describing the technology on-board the MKS, especially when equipped with the optional Vision Package, which brings forth wonders such as voice-activated navigation with rearview camera, THX II 5.1 surround sound 16-speaker 600-watt audio and adaptive cruise control.

Supplied as standard equipment are nuggets such as Lincoln SYNC communication and entertainment technology, which includes ten gigabytes of hard drive storage for music and pictures. This system will even rip music CDs and play videos when the transmission is in 'park.'

A full suite of occupant protection and vehicle stability technology is also on the standard menu.

MKS a dream on the road
As the pictures will attest, much of my time behind the Lincoln's leather and wood-trimmed wheel found me negotiating snow-covered roads. As mentioned off the top, the AWD setup performed admirably in keeping Lincoln's flagship under sail amidst a sea of white.

When not digging in all four paws to find traction, the MKS delivers ride characteristics capable of spoiling royalty. Its hushed cabin imparts serenity while its smooth, controlled ride soothes frayed nerves. I'm quite a fan of luxury cars such as the MKS. They make dealing with the rigors of traffic so much more tolerable.

Power from the refined V6 mill is more than adequate for the routine. Highway passing is suitable but the MKS is not a performance machine when contrasted against some of its V8-powered competitors, yet it has no apologies to make. The vast majority of Lincoln buyers are not driven to the brand in search of pavement-searing acceleration and handling.

Returning the Lincoln Lustre
What Lincoln-oriented buyers will find in the MKS is a modern incarnation of the domestic luxury sedan reestablishing Lincoln as a true contender internationally in the premium sedan segment. The "lustre of Lincoln" shines a little brighter now that its modestly priced flagship has reached port. My fully-loaded tester topped-out at $55,679. MKS entry starts at a reasonable $45,599 for a FWD version.

I found great pleasure in driving the MKS. It rewards its occupants with a beautiful, well-stocked cabin however the vehicle's exterior styling failed to move me. The designers coloured within the lines rather than 'wowing' us by stepping out a little, as Cadillac did with the new CTS. That said, this is still a good-looking car that's sure to please discriminating palates.
