Washington D.C. - After many years of absence, Lincoln comes back with a high-end luxury full-size sedan to take on the likes of Cadillac's STS, Chrysler's 300C, Lexus' GS 350 and Infiniti's M35. This newcomer is called MKS.

The 2009 MKS embodies the new "Lincoln DNA".

This is not your grandfather's Lincoln. The 2009 MKS has absolutely nothing to do with the prehistoric Continental, which was discontinued at the end of 2002. The lines are rather inspired from the Lincoln MKR, a concept introduced at the 2007 NAIAS in Detroit which gave a taste of the brand's future styling direction -- or what Peter Horbury, Ford's Executive Director of Design for the Americas, simply likes to call the new "Lincoln DNA".

New genes
Like the MKR Concept, the MKS sports a prominent double-wing front grille, which will be Lincoln's new corporate signature from now on. The strong, angular body also sets the car apart, especially the ultra-raised trunk (though it compromises rearward visibility). Meanwhile, the tall side profiles enhance the car's overall looks and appeal through clever use of light reflection. Clearly, this new Lincoln will leave no one indifferent.

The same holds true for the interior, which goes well beyond Lincoln's traditional approach. The layout is very symmetrical and highlighted by a combination of rich materials: leather, highly textured plastics, chrome/aluminum trim pieces as well as ebony or olive ash wood appliqués (depending on the selected leather upholstery).

S also stands for Sovereign

Ford is proud to mention that the 2009 MKS is the most technically advanced Lincoln ever. Whether it's the adaptive cruise control, which allows the driver to maintain a steady distance between the MKS and the vehicle ahead without touching the throttle, or the HID bi-xenon headlights, which swivel to improve lighting in corners at night, drivers are in for a treat.
