Buyers can add just about any feature they want to customize the interior, whether it's a DVD entertainment system, XM NavTraffic or a 9.3 GB hard drive and compact flash slot for MP3/WMA files. Rain-sensing windshield wipers are standard fare.
The instruments are readily accessible and nicely laid out for intuitive monitoring of the vehicle's data. Overall ergonomics are perfect and a nice premium feel enhances the driving experience. If you don't want to bother with the climate settings, Nissan has incorporated a dual-zone automatic climate control system that should make you happy. Meanwhile, the rich-sounding Bose audio system in my tester featured 11 speakers, including two subwoofers.
I particularly appreciated the comfort provided by the front seats. The 8-way power adjustable driver's seat, including adjustable lumbar support, does a great job of maintaining your body in check during spirited cornering maneuvers. The driving position is comfortable and the quality leather is worth mentioning.
In spite of the 20-inch wheels, the ride quality is impeccable. The plush suspension is remarkably effective at soaking up bumps and potholes. Also, the interior remains serene and pretty quiet; really, no significant wind noise can be heard.
The fairly large size of the Murano allowed designers to incorporate a satisfying number of storage compartments. The cargo threshold is not too high and the available room for your gear is impressive when the rear seats are folded. Access is easy and, once inside, headroom is decent. The same holds true for the rear quarters.
Proven powertrain
Why would you replace an engine that's largely considered as one of the best in the world, year after year? That's exactly what Nissan engineers asked themselves when it came time to decide on the new Murano's powertrain. Therefore, they merely reworked the existing 3.5L V6, increasing output to 265 horsepower. Given its award-winning performance, it's no wonder this mill is found under the hood of nearly half the Nissan/Infiniti lineup. It delivers convincing though not electrifying accelerations in smooth, seamless fashion. The Xtronic continuously variable transmission keeps pace without flinching.
