Some might have not noticed, but the Versa sedan disappeared from Nissan's line-up in the past few months. It's back for 2009, but with some changes.

2008 Nissan Versa Sedan

The 1.8-litre engine that was found in the 2008 model and that's also in the 2009 Versa hatchback is still available. However, a 16-valve, 1.6-litre 4-cylinder unit has been fitted to a new base model. It produces 107 horsepower and is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.

The Versa Sedan 1.6 will offer a shorter list of standard features, but will carry a lower base price in order to compete against low-priced subcompacts such as the Chevrolet Aveo and Pontiac G3 sedans. The $9,990 MSRP announced south of the border makes it the lowest-priced car in the USA.

In addition, the smaller engine will obviously be more fuel-efficient than the 1.8-litre engine.
