I asked Toyota's Managing Director of Canadian Operations, Stephen Beatty about the popularity of the Prius among taxi operators, particularly those in Vancouver. He cited a case in which a taxi driver calculated that driving a Prius instead of a Corolla would save him $18 per shift. Taxi operators also report less wear and tear, and a reduction in the need to service the Prius over other makes and models of taxis.
The 2009 Vancouver International Auto Show was fascinating and highly informative. In addition to cars, the show included plenty of educational opportunities, such as those presented by the British Columbia Safety Council. They were onsite teaching a number of programs designed to increase safety behind the wheel while improving fuel-efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
Next year's Vancouver International Auto Show will follow the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Winter Olympics. Undoubtedly a special time for the Auto Show, and we plan to be there again to bring you the highlights.
