The re-born Dodge Challenger debuted in 2008, but only in the limited-production SRT8 version; 2009 was its first model year in all its guises — SE, SXT, R/T and SRT8.

Challenger is based on the rear-drive platform debuted by the Charger sedan, and both nameplates are built in Bramalea, Ontario.

Some pony car fans regret its girth and weight for a car with some sporting intention and/or when compared to the original. But everyone else is smitten with its muscle-car mojo.

Engines choices remain, namely the 250-hp 3.5-litre V6, the uplevel 372-hp 5.7-litre V8, and the SRT8-exclusive 425-hp 6.1-litre V8.
Plum Crazy is a new colour for 2010.

The other new developments are subtler.

Challenger becomes one of only two Chrysler Corp vehicles with available Keyless Go, and joins a larger group that gets Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Decel Fuel Shut-Off (iDFSO), and Fuel Saver Indicator (FSI) as standard equipment.

FSI is expected to provide better fuel economy, by advising drivers when the powertrain is in the economy target zone, when drivers have reached the fuel saver target range, and by encouraging consumers to adapt a better overall driving style. It also indicates when iDFSO is activated.

All models get more standard equipment. SE gets new luxury floor mats, and anti-lock 4-wheel disc brakes with brake assist. R/T gets new door pull handles and cup holder with LEC lights. SRT8 gets unconnect tunes with 30GB hard drive MP3 radio.

Pricing starts at $25,995.
