The truck’s ride is pretty impressive. It’s equipped with a suspension called Magnetic Ride Control, which is exclusive to the Hybrid Denali in the Yukon line, and makes the mammoth SUV glide over un-smooth surfaces like gravel roads and just about every street in Montreal.

The GMC’s cabin, in Denali clothing, includes perforated leather seats up front that are both 12-way power adjustable, heated and cooled. The second-row bench also includes seat heaters, and there’s room for 8 passengers, which is perfect for hauling two families to the zoo or the amusement park; that is, until you realize that there is little cargo room left when all the seats are upright, and the cooler won’t fit. The Infiniti QX56 is more spacious inside.

The steering column tilts but doesn’t telescope, the pedals are power-adjustable, while the front seats are the kind that will keep you comfy for hours. The small climate control buttons are hard to operate while driving, though; there’s plenty of space on the centre console, why not make them bigger?

The interior design could also use a makeover. GM’s newer products host cabins that look and feel richer, and the Yukon would surely benefit from that new philosophy. The hard, grainy plastics, the shiny woodgrains and the conservative styling don’t really feel at home in a vehicle of this price.

However, the Yukon Hybrid Denali gets massive 22-inch chromed wheels with fat P285/45R22 tires, another exclusivity over the regular Denali. And they both share chromed door handles and body-side mouldings, a power liftgate, a power glass sunroof and a wood-trimmed steering wheel.
