The Feel Good car
The car’s handling also seems to have lost a little sharpness because of the extra weight; it seems a little twitchy as I’m carving into corners at extra-curricular speeds. But then again, if you want razor-sharp reflexes, the Nissan 370Z might serve you better, although it doesn’t have a back seat and has a harsher ride.

It is a coupe, so naturally when someone wants to sit in the back seat, which should invariably be kids or people whose suffering doesn’t mind you, it screws up your perfect seating position, but that’s a shortcoming of just about any two-door car; the position memory feature is mighty useful. Also, the power seat controls are hard to reach, as you have to scrape the back side of your hand on the door to fiddle with them. Ouch!

Our test car is equipped with the Hi-Tech Package, which includes a bunch of gadgets that take more than a week to test and master. I did get to try out the pre-crash seatbelts; go fast and slam on the brakes, and the belts will reel up automatically and pin you to the seat. Great, but they don’t let go until you stop the car, which becomes stressful if you were only planning on slowing down.

Adaptive cruise control, I repeat, should be included in all cars, not just high-end ones; I guess that day will eventually come. Infiniti’s system is very effective, as it skilfully works while you’re following cars or motorcycles, and even sees the vehicle ahead and on an angle from you on 270-degree highway off-ramps. Marvellous.

Okay, enough of the old-school heavy metal, at least until tomorrow morning. I’m plugging in a USB key filled with foot-stomping music like Muse and Calvin Harris, but the USB port under the centre armrest is awkwardly placed and you almost need both hands to get the key in. I hope you’re flexible, because I definitely am not anymore.

The navigation system’s 3D graphics and touch-screen interface is great, but it’s a slightly far reach; undoubtedly, not one person is alike, so this might be an isolated issue. As for trunk space, just don’t go shopping for anything that’s more than a foot high, or swing it on the back seat.

It is a coupe, so naturally the access should be restricted to kids or people whose suffering doesn’t mind you. (Photo: Matthieu Lambert/Auto123.com)
