Styling debate
From the front, the MKT is striking with its prominent waterfall grille that is Lincoln’s new corporate visage. The low hoodline definitely gives the SUV a more carlike stance.

From the front, the MKT is striking with its prominent waterfall grille.

The rear end is, in our opinion, less successful; with a very long overhang and rising hips, the MKT looks a little overweight, while the full-width taillights aren’t Ford’s best design work. But overall, this truck sets itself apart.

Inside, the classy interior feels rich and its centre console switchgear is more functional than what is currently found in the Navigator as well as a few competitors. The huge glass roof is great for making the cabin feel even more spacious, but it doesn’t open more than an inch.

A generous amount of space is available up front and in the 2nd row of seats, but the third row lacks headroom for adults; that’s too bad, because there is sufficient legroom for short trips, something that’s usually lacking in this type of 7-passenger vehicle. In addition, the 3rd-row headrests pretty much block what little view we have out the small rear window.

Standard equipment, however, is beyond reproach; in Canada, every MKT comes with all-wheel drive, a rear view camera, SYNC, MyKey, 12-way power front seats, a fixed glass roof, 2nd-row sunshades, HID headlights with auto-adjusting high beams, adjustable pedals, 3-zone auto climate control, heated front and 2nd-row seats, a power tilt and telescoping wheel and roll stability control.

Competition

The MKT starts at $49,950, while our EcoBoost tester carries a $53,350 MSRP as well as a few options, such as the $5,000 Elite Package that adds navigation, BLIS and the aforementioned power roof.
