When style isn't everything
The Lincoln MKT is anything but ordinary. Its profile is unique, its grille spectacular, its finish remarkable and its size, well, a little excessive. But in the EcoBoost version, the MKT’s truly distinguishing feature is slumbering under the hood. This is the review of a big vehicle that almost succeeds in passing for a small one.

The Lincoln MKT is in actual fact the luxurious brother of the Ford Flex. Those that aren’t impressed with the Flex’s style won’t be more so with this one’s. But I have to admit, the MKT has a little something extra.

Seen from the front, for example, it looks like it came right off the silver screen. Its over-size grille cracking in a wide, toothy grin, Lincoln’s new signature feature, would feel at home on the set of a horror movie. And I mean that in a good way. It’s simply that the vehicle has such a commanding presence that it attracts attention and inspires respect from the very first glance.

The MKT is elongated, a little like a wagon, and ends with an almost pointy hatch around back. From this angle, the view isn’t as nice. The light clusters stretch the entire width of the vehicle and the rear window seems tiny compared to the massive hatch – let’s face it, the rear fascia just isn’t quite as nice.

It does have one very good thing going for it: just like the Flex, the MKT features a panoramic moonroof, which while obviously only opening part way still gives all passengers the impression that they’re cruising along in a convertible!

Inside, the MKT boasts all the features dear to Lincoln and luxury vehicles in general: unparalleled finish, high-end materials and a long list of accessories, including the now-indispensable-and-efficient-and-user-friendly-and-useful Sync, which is admittedly one of the better designed multimedia systems on the market. Even linking a Bluetooth phone is a simple operation, and the sound quality is remarkable, something other manufacturers should take note of.

Throw in spacious and comfortable seats, excellent head- and legroom for all passengers, not to mention a decent, if not imposing, cargo area, and you get an exceptionally well-balanced vehicle – for a crossover, that is.
