Less hardcore, still as enticing
More spacious cabin
A lot of effort was put into making the Evora easier to climb in and get out of than the Elise. That includes wider-opening doors, lower and slimmer door sills, higher seat cushions and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

The Evora also offers 161 of cargo space, which is marginally more than the trunk space in a Mazda MX-5. Lotus assures golfers that a full set of clubs will fit in the car's cargo hold, though.

While the Elise has a stripped-down, shut-up and drive cabin, the Evora will offer a much higher level of creature comforts. A climate control system, an Alpine sound system with 7 speakers, Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a removable touch-screen navigation system all figure on the standard equipment list. A backup camera is optional.

No other model in the British company's history will have received so much development.

Multi-adjustable seats are wrapped in leather with a choice of colors, and real metal trim highlights the dash and door panels. Buyers can also choose a full leather treatment, and Lotus except most of them to do so.

Clean lines
The Evora's alluring shape sports sculpted sheetmetal that's devoid of aerodynamic add-ons. The side air intakes are functional and the rear end has an oval shape that resembles the Elise. The designers chose a car-forward approach that gives the car an agile stance; a short rear overhang, a longer front overhang, and bigger rear wheels.

The expression "daily driver" is one that hasn't been attached to a Lotus in a long time. But when the Evora will hit the streets, no other model in the British company's history will have received so much development. Two versions of the Evora should be available when the car is launched in late 2009, one with 2+2 seating and one without the back seat.
