The Mazda RX-8 continues to offer world-renown handling, four-door flexibility and a unique rotary engine powertrain for the 2010 model year. Carrying forward with a recent makeover, Mazda’s popular Wankel-powered sports-coupe offers more style and uniqueness than ever.

RX-8 leaves little to guesswork with its dual outlet exhaust, LED taillamps, widened fenders and large alloy wheels wearing performance rubber. The body cleverly hides a secondary set of doors that access the rear portion of the cabin, while a set of xenon projector lights gives the RX-8 an unmistakable after-dark presence.

Don’t miss the special ‘R3’ model, either. Among other things, it adds a special wheel design, taller rear spoiler and subtle body kit.

Inside, drivers are treated to a set of hip-hugging leather seats, available Bose audio, a large, centre-mounted tachometer, and a flow-through centre console that houses cupholders and storage compartments.

Powering all models is a Mazda Renesis rotary engine. The 1.3 litre multi side-port engine develops a peak of 232 horsepower, sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited slip differential. An automatic transmission is available, too.

Electrifying handling, control and performance are promised—though that doesn’t mean taking a hit in the safety department, either. All RX-8 models are equipped with advanced front, side and curtain airbags working alongside a crushable pedal system for maximum protection in a crash. To help keep drivers in control, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and a Traction Control System (TCS) are available.

The 2010 Mazda RX-8 is on sale now.
