Mercedes-Benz is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Chinese auto market. Having already grown some 53 percent there in the past year, they're currently rated the country's number one brand in customer satisfaction, too.

The German automaker has just showcased their compact GLK-Class SUV at Auto China, and it's the first model from the brand to celebrate a world debut there. "It's a testimony to this important and fast-growing market that we are presenting our most significant new model of 2008 in China," said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. "After last year's success, which saw Mercedes-Benz China achieve a volume increase of 53 percent, the new GLK will inject additional momentum here and in other markets".

Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi was on hand to promote the new vehicle as well. A famous Chinese superstar, she may be recognized on our shores for her role in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Mercedes will also be selling the M-Class, CL600 and S-Class in China alongside the GLK. Currently, the S-Class is the best-selling luxury sedan in the country.

The 2010 GLK350, which will be built in Germany, will arrive in Canadian dealerships in January 2009. It will be powered by the company's familiar 3.5-liter V6, which develops 268 horsepower, and standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

It's not only luxury and performance that the company will be selling in the Chinese marketplace--as 2009 will see their Smart brand selling vehicles alongside current offerings from Mercedes-Benz and Maybach.
