The revival of a full-size SUV
Its unpopularity led some to believe that we had seen the last of it. But Infiniti’s full-size SUV, the QX, is alive and kicking and has even treated itself to a full makeover. The totally revised 2011 version made its world debut at the New York Auto Show.

On the outside, the new QX56 4WD retains the same imposing proportions, but it has been polished to reflect the brand’s generic design. It’s curvier and not as boxy, and the whole package looks more sophisticated. It has to be said that the QX is targeting nothing other than the Land Rover crowd and hopes to compete in both the luxury and off-road arenas.

Under the hood, the QX56 inherits the same engine as the all-new M, also completely redesigned. It’s a V8 mill generating some 400 ponies and coupled with an adaptation of Infiniti’s new 7-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, it has retained its four-wheel drive as well as all the on-board systems that provide the same off-road competence as the previous incarnation. In Canada, the two-wheel-drive models will not be offered.

The 2011 Infiniti QX56 4WD will be on sale this summer as a 2011 model.

- Infiniti today revealed its all-new 2011 Infiniti QX full-size SUV at a press conference at the 2010 New York International Auto Show. The new second-generation QX, which is designed to offer a true five-star travel experience, is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti retailers in the United States and Canada this summer – with no increase in pricing over the 2010 QX. The 2011 QX is offered in two models – Infiniti QX56 2WD and Infiniti QX56 4WD.

The QX will be on display, along with the full lineup of inspired Infiniti vehicles – including the redesigned Infiniti G and all-new Infiniti M, which went on sale March 18th – at Jacob Javits Center from April 2nd through April 11th.
