Swoopy, voluptuous and very, very red, the glimpse at future Renault styling recently bowed on the stage of the Paris Motor Show. Complete with scissor-style doors, wheels the size of trash-can lids and Audi R8-inspired side blades, the gorgeous DeZir should prove one of the show’s most popular concepts.

Renault says the DeZir was led by Laurens van den Acker, and that it marks the start of a new a sequence of concepts that will provide an insight into Renault Design's new vision for the future.

Inside, the concept got a bright, airy and refreshing cabin look that’s designed to convey a feel of ‘lightness’. Though mostly white in colour, some red accents tie in the colour scheme of the DeZir’s exterior.

"DeZir is a statement of our new formal design language which conveys notions such as movement, sensuality and emotion through ideal proportions, in much the same way as an object whose forms have been honed by nature. The result is a warm, stimulating design that says 'Renault'" explains Axel Breun, Renault's Director of Concept Car and Show Car Design.

Powered by a mid-mounted, tweaked-up version of an electric engine found in Renault’s production electric cars, the DeZir stores its juice in a 24 kwh lithium-ion battery and has a range of 160 kilometres. Advanced aerodynamics, Kevlar body panels and a tubular structure help shave weight and enhance dynamic balance, too.

If the DeZir ever makes it into production (according to some rumours, it could set the stage for the long awaited return of the Alpine), a 180 km/h top would follow a 0-100 km/h sprint of about 5 seconds.
