Driven spiritedly in snow, the Panamera's AWD system doesn’t necessarily work towards maximum traction-- but rather, maximum driver involvement, entertainment and confidence. Driven gently, it seamlessly transitions from surface to surface in any sort of weather.
Note that even with top-notch snow-tires on board, the Panamera occasionally felt as if it was skiing over top of deeper snow, rather than digging into it. The wide wheels are to blame here.
Room for grown-ups
On board, there’s generous room in every direction for even the largest of occupants-- most of whom will begin sharing their ideas for a dream road-trip. This writer’s passengers all agreed that the Panamera would be an ideal cross-continent cruiser, and even those up to six-foot-four admitted to feeling surprisingly comfortable and un-confined. The stereo, suede headliner and flow-through center-console were all hits, too.
A sunroof, navigation, climate-controlled seats and a heated steering wheel were also on board, and each front passenger even gets their very own climate control system. The cabin’s unique looks and unbeatable quality add to the atmosphere.
The trunk is relatively generous, too, and there are even pre-installed roof-rack mounting provisions for skis, bikes or kayaks.
Minor complaints
Complaints were limited-- as well they should be in a car with a price-tag higher than some real estate. Visibility is poor during lane-change checks and reversing, and the small-ish side-view mirrors don't help. The fold-out cupholders aren’t the sturdiest, either.
Minor gripes, folks. End of the day, you’re not going to find a car that so effortlessly switches between ‘Porsche’ and ‘Plush’ anywhere else. Panamera is ready for your year-round road trip needs, priced from $115,000.
Vegas anyone?
