The Mazda2 isn’t even on Canadian showroom floors yet, but the Japanese automaker is already showcasing its lifestyle-specific and high-performance possibilities.

Need a fuel efficient daily commuter that can also deliver lap after lap of wholesome, tire-burning action on a racetrack? The Mazda Active2 Evil might be for you.

For Active2 Evil duty, 2’s ultra-modern body work is set off with some neon-green accents, tuner-style body add-ons and a set of unique, bright-green wheels. Decals, a lowered stance and a special rear spoiler help the Active2 Evil deliver a youthful, energetic and dynamic look.

The entire package rides a set of seventeens wrapped in Yokahama Advan performance tires bolted to a lowered coil-over suspension provided by H&R. The four-cylinder engine exhales through a Magna performance exhaust system, and a diffuser, deeper rocker panels enhanced aerodynamics complete the package.

In case you’re wondering, the “55” decal on the side is a historic nod to Mazda’s 1991 Le Mans-winning 787B race car.

Mazda says that their Active2 Evil concept aspires to be a weekend track car that functions equally well as an urban commuter. Since the 2Evil is just a concept, Mazda fans hot for a hot hatch will have to settle for the Mazdaspeed3 for now.

Self-powered sports more your thing? Mazda’s got a pair of 2 concepts for you, too. The Active2 Surf and Active2 Snow are two specially-equipped models geared up for outdoor sports enthusiasts. Capitalizing on the 2’s built-in driving sportiness, the Active2 Surf and Active2 Snow concepts are built to make the drive to the beach or slopes just as fun as the day owners will spend there.

A big step forward in personalization, both concepts feature more aggressive visuals in the form of a deeper front bumper and side-sill extensions. Handling is dialed up with 17-inch wheels and performance tires, as well as an H&R coilover suspension system.

Subtle ‘Active2’ graphics are added to the fender and hood in contrasting colours. The Active2 Surf is finished in green, while the Active2 Snow is finished, of course, in white.

The Active2 Surf and Active2 Snow each get a special Thule roof-rack system with matching carbon-fibre surfboards or snowboards-- respectively. Thule is a Swedish manufacturer that’s been building custom-fit roof-racks and storage boxes for decades.

Will we Canadians ever see concepts like the 2Evil, Active2 Surf and Active2 Snow land on dealer lots? It’s possible-- if the small car scene heats up as much as Mazda’s hoping.
