Infineon Raceway boasts several off camber blind turns and significant elevations changes - a challenging course for a large, monstrously-powered muscle car.
The first off-camber drop results in no body roll and the car feels planted, balanced. Recalibrated suspension geometry, highly damped shocks and new negative camber settings result in stiff, balanced handling and genuine cornering ability. For such a large car, the SRT8 392 feels agile and composed. Scores of .0.93 g during skid pad testing place the SRT8 392 on par with the best handling sports coupes.
Steering feels nicely weighted - fully hydraulic and "SRT-tuned" to provide more road feel.
Certainly, dropping the throttle pedal is enough to slam you into the seat back. But, hauling back all that power is no problem for the Brembo brakes, and the car sets back nicely onto its contact patches with no pitching or diving and no evidence of ploughing understeer.
Pulling into pit lane, the exhaust booms and echos off the cement walls and slows down to a mellow burble at idle.
A limited production run of 1,492 (392 for Canada) Inaugural Edition SRT8 392 Challengers will be produced to commemorate the return of the legendary HEMI.
They'll be offered in only two colour combinations: Deep Water Blue with Dual White stripes or Bright White with dual Viper Blue stripes and Pearl White Leather Seats with blue accents and striping. 392 HEMI badging graces both fenders and in behind, quad exhaust tips produce that glorious muscle car burble. Forged, 20" aluminum wheels complete the picture.
The Inaugural Edition Challenger will be available at the end of November to 392 lucky Canadians.
