According to Automotive News, Ford will introduce several new powertrains in the 2011 F-Series pickup.

Since it was redesigned for the 2009 model year, the F-150 hasn’t been offered with a V6 engine. For 2011, a 3.7-litre V6 will be offered in base models, and will offer more power and better fuel economy than the current 4.6-litre, 16-valve V8. The latter will be abandoned in favour of an also-new 5.0-litre V8.

In addition, Ford will also make their 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 available in the light-duty pickup, which is said to deliver better fuel economy than the new base 3.7-litre unit. It is not clear which versions of the F-150 would benefit from the EcoBoost, and who would consider over a V8.

As expected, the 6.2-litre V8 that is found in the 2011 Super Duty models will make its way in the F-150 SVT Raptor.
