The Fiesta is slightly more powerful than most rivals, although performance remains average at best. During our latest Subcompact Comparative Test, we pitted a PowerShift-equipped Fiesta against a Mazda2, Kia Rio5, Honda Fit and Nissan Versa Hatchback. The last two turned out to be the fastest from 0 to 100 km/h at 10.2 and 10.5 seconds, respectively. The Fiesta was two tenths of a second slower.

Hurrah for hatchbacks!
I will always choose 5-door econoboxes over their classic 4-door counterparts due to their more accommodating nature. Sedans always seem to suffer from a tight trunk opening, which creates headaches anytime you want to load big, cumbersome items like a bicycle, a stroller or even a picnic cooler.

On the flip side, hatchbacks offer a generous opening and way more cargo options once you fold the rear seatbacks. That being said, not all hatchbacks boast the same interior flexibility.

The Fiesta pales in comparison with the Fit, the undisputed champion of versatility. Moreover, it may offer similar cargo room as most competitors with the rear seats up, but not anymore when you fold them down. At 965 litres, the Fiesta's maximum capacity trumps only the Mazda2 (787 L) and Scion xD (691 L). The Fit (1,612 L), Versa Hatchback (1,427 L), Rio5 (1,405 L) and even the aging Chevrolet Aveo5 (1,053 L) can all pack more than the little Ford.

Plus, the V-shaped opening revealed by the Fiesta's liftgate is 20-percent narrower at the base, not to mention that the lip is big and high, and that the folding seatbacks don't create a flat cargo floor. Actually, it's more of a two-tier floor with a 13-centimetre step. Better start flexing those muscles of yours...
