The SmartGauge with EcoGuide is a bit overwhelming at first. It communicates various information to the driver to ensure you can drive as efficiently as possible. Similar to the Honda Insight, if you drive efficiently, the driver gets rewarded with leaves that will grow into flowers that resemble apple blossoms. A bit of a gimmick, I know, but the blossoms do look beautiful.

Customers today can now research everything they need and want online and we have come to expect information at our fingertips immediately. We want to know as much information as we possibly can, and systems like this really allow you to know what is going on in your car. Once you live with this system and get a chance to really play with it, I am sure that it will just become second nature.

It informs, engages and empowers the driver. It includes information about your fuel and battery charge info, your tachometer, engine output and battery output, accessory power usage and more! The EcoGuide gives today's buyers all the information they want in a way that is nice to look at and fun to use.

Its like when I go to the gym and push myself on some of the cardio equipment. After working so hard I like to see how many calories I have burned, how my hard work has paid off!

Lincoln says that if you drive efficiently, over the life of your MKZ (approximately 240,000 km) you could save 2,000 litres of fuel and 58,000 lbs of CO2! I think that sounds like a decent payoff for our bank accounts and for mother nature.

Let's get back to the drive. The engine has a total horsepower of 191 when you combine the gas and electric motor. Behind the wheel, watching the EcoGuide I am hesitant to really push this car.

I do of course! And I am impressed with it off the line and when passing other vehicles. It doesn't feel as heavy as the HS 250h, yet it does have a planted, solid feel to it even at higher speeds.

We are driving on some pretty bumpy roads and the car glides over them. The suspension has a nice balance and is not too soft.

Sitting in the driver's seat, I am aware of many of the luxurious standard features that make driving this MKZ comfortable. There are 10-way power driver and passenger seats with lumbar support, and both are heated/ cooled and leather-trimmed. A manual tilt and telescoping steering wheel make finding a comfy driving position easy.
