Unlike its similarly blessed Italian counterparts, the V12 fires up with a lusty roar, like an enraged tyrannosaurus, rather than a high-pitched exotic banshee wail. Boasting 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, the CL65 sprints from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. Rather than the CL63's 7-speed MCT gearbox, the CL65 is equipped with the 5-speed AMG Speedshift.

We come up hard behind a compact Twingo, its roof loaded with building supplies and moving at a snail's pace. Once a gap opens up, one thrust of the gas pedal is enough to jet propel us past the tiny Twingo, while flattening us against our seats.
Wistfully, we remark on how much that ability to get around puttering beige Corollas on our own wide roadways would be appreciated.
