An all too brief love affair
The SLS certainly isn't for everybody. Although leaving the adaptive suspension in Comfort mode supplies a nice, supple ride worthy of any luxurious cruiser, there's a constant droning soundtrack, the sonic boom of the exhaust and the dual-clutch transmission gnashing its teeth like an angry stallion chomping at the bit. But one man's cacophony is another's symphony – enthusiasts will find the aural stimulation enthralling.

Dial in Sport mode, and the SLS firms up to track-day solid – the shift mapping quickens to rapid-fire bursts. For those brave (or foolhardy) enough to turn off the electronic aids, be forewarned – the tail of this dragon is startlingly quick to break free.

It's also not the car for those who cherish their privacy, or prefer to travel incognito. The SLS demands a lot of attention – and gets it. Invariably, I'd leave it in a parking lot, only to return and find it surrounded by admirers.

Returning the SLS after my all-too-short test drive left me with a lump in my throat and filled with wistful longing – like a brief and intoxicating affair with someone who ultimately was way out of my league.
