If you overlook its decided lack of anything resembling performance, and let's face it, there are many appliance-driving commuters that do, the Lancer SE makes an acceptable daily driver. Gas consumption is mid-pack at 8.0L/100km city and 5.9L/100km highway.
Headroom is generous and legroom is good for rear passengers. There's a host of standard safety equipment, including driver, passenger, side, knee and side-curtain airbags. Traction and stability control are also standard.
Its quirky styling is still endearing, several years on, but the Lancer could use a little refinement and modernization if it wants to stay relevant.
