The ES model without the third row of seats has an under floor storage compartment.
A segment first is the Outlanders flap fold tailgate. It is a great feature that allows the tailgate to fold out flat for loading in large packages.
Another great feature is Mitsubishi’s “10-5-5” warranty. The powertrain is covered for 10 years or 160,00km and the basic warranty is 5 years or 100,00km. For added security, it also gives owners 5 years of 24/7 emergency roadside assistance and free towing for warranty related repairs.
Speaking of security, standard safety features include dual front air bag and curtain air bags, side-impact air bags. All Outlander models have ABS (antilock brakes), BAS (Brake Assist System) and ASC (Active Stability).
This XLS is rated at 11.0L/100km in the city and 7.9 on the highway and the ES gets 9.0 in the city and 7.0 on the highway.
I think most consumers overlook the Outlander. With great standard features, an enjoyable drive and the available S-AWC, it is worth a look. Little things like standard Bluetooth and heated seats make a huge difference in this market.
Here’s hoping that the next generation will see an improvement in the third row seating.
