Another very important feature of a minivan is comfort. I took dozens of road trips with my family in the past and I still love to travel with my friends - so I speak from thousands of kilometres as both a driver and a passenger.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, I have a commanding view of the road ahead. This is one reason why I enjoy driving a minivan over a sedan. Tilt & telescoping steering wheel are standard on all trim levels. All but the 4- cylinder and base V6 have an 8-way power adjustable driver seat.
Getting in and out of the sliding side doors is incredibly easy thanks to the tip up and long-slide second row seats that give you more room when you climb in. There is more interior space allowing for more stretching room and for accommodate a wider range of heights and sizes.
Speaking of stretching out, my favourite ‘comfort’ feature is the optional lounge seating for the second row seats. It is standard on the XLE and Limited model. If you take your kids on long road trips (or even adults) these seats are incredibly comfortable, they include leg and foot supports and make it easier to have a nap in while on the road.
Last but definitely not least is convenience. Minivans offer many features that no other vehicle on the road can. This new Sienna has thoughtful storage areas throughout the entire cabin, several cup holders, USB audio input, Bluetooth capability, removable/stowable second-row centre seat on 8 passenger models and many more available options.
I am incredibly impressed with the 60/40 split and stow rear seat that folds flat with just one simple and unbelievably easy motion. My first shot at this was while holding a coffee in my right hand and attempting to stow the seat with my left – so simple. This is the fastest and easiest third row of seats to stow manually.
The LE 4-cylinder and the base V6 model come equipped with a long list of standard features that include AM/FM/MP3/WMA CD player and iPod connectivity with four speakers, tri-zone climate control, cruise control, ABS, traction control and vehicle stability control.
The LE V6 8 passenger and LE V6 AWD 7 passenger upgrades to include 6 speakers, XM satellite radio, Bluetooth, steering wheel audio controls, 3.5" Multi Information Display, a backup camera and power sliding side doors. The SE gets a power rear door.
Get into the XLE Limited Package or the AWD Limited 7-passenger and you get a few even tastier upgrades like JBL premium sound system, voice activated DVD navigation, wide angle rear camera with front and rear clearance sonars, multi-panel moonroof and rear seat dual view entertainment system.
