I am surprised with the day-to-day comfort of this truck. Driving it under normal conditions to and from my day job, handling is enjoyable.
The double wishbone suspension with gas shocks, coil springs and stabilizer bar give this Tacoma a rugged feel. Overall, I would say the ride is on the harsh side, even for a truck.
If you are looking for more power and towing capabilities, the 4.0 litre V6 generates 236 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque.
Each Tacoma has a substantial list of both active and passive safety systems. Features such as vehicle stability control, traction control with antilock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, six airbags and active front head restraints are just a few.
Prices start at just under $22,000 for the 4X2 Access Cab with manual transmission and go up to just under $40,000 for the 4X4 Double Cab V6 automatic with all the bells and whistles.
My 4x4 Access Cab starts at just under $26,000 and is equipped with the SR5 power package that costs $2,030 and includes a few great extras like steering wheel audio controls, cruise control, sliding rear window and front passengers seat fold-down seatback.
After spending the week with this mid-size truck, I can really see its appeal. It gives you lots of space and good fuel economy. If you require the size, power and durability a car can’t provide, its long-standing reputation for toughness and dependability make the Tacoma worth checking out in any configuration.
