Three magnificent Golf24s were entered, and here are the cars and their respective drivers:
Golf24 #35 – white/red
Peter Terting / Nicki Thiim / Franck Mailleux / René Rast
Golf24 #135 – white/blue
Thomas Mutsch / Fredrik Ekblom / Patrick Simon / Edoardo Mortara
Golf24 #235 – white/yellow
Johnny Herbert / Patrick Bernhardt / Mark Blundell / René Rast
Unfortunately, things did not go quite as planned for Volkswagen. Car #135 fell first after colliding with another car and subsequently hitting a wall on Saturday. Minutes later, car #35 retired due to transmission failure. Golf #235 soldiered on until Sunday afternoon; however, it would also succumb to a transmission fault before the end.
The Green Hell may have taken all three Golf24s, but they represented only a part of Volkswagen's effort. They also pitted a pair of Volkswagen Scirocco GT24-CNG cars. More to come.
