If you still believe that the Corvette is built for straight-line accelerations but not the many twists and turns of a professional race track, this news will change your mind.
General Motors just announced that the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 completed the 154 turns and 20.8 kilometres of the legendary Nürburgring in 7:19.63, more than six seconds faster than the previous Corvette-best recorded in 2008.
The time trial was performed using a full production model with no modifications. The goal was to validate the car’s added performance technology coming to production later this summer for the 2012 model year.
The new Corvette ZR1 becomes the second-fastest production car at the Nürburgring, behind only the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (7:18). It's followed by the Dodge Viper ACR (7:22.1) and Nissan GT-R (7:24.22).
