Will there be Blood?
If the C250 delivers its advantage of about 50 additional horses with the same decorum of the C180’s mill, I predict a lot of satisfied owners. Of course, if straight-line performance is a priority, the 306-hp V6 mill should please all but the heartiest performance aficionados.

The V6 delivers quiet, unobtrusive propulsion. When called upon, it can hustle the C-Class Coupe with commanding authority, which makes it a desirable partner on the highway. Ride comfort in both the C180 and C350 isĀ absorbent yet taut.

The underpinnings effectively combine ride and cornering dynamics. In my view, the setup is biased toward responsive handling over ride comfort, but not my much. The bias allows the Coupe to excel on twisty European roads. And while the roads in Europe seem endless, this one must come to an end.

C-Class Coupe wrapped
Pulling younger buyers into a Mercedes-Benz is an important strategy for future growth and long-term prosperity, and a moderately-priced coupe with sufficient attitude to inspire the youthful professional is just such a ticket.

Mercedes-Benz chose to dive into a shark tank when it recommitted to the coupe format. To swim with sharks and survive, one needs a good weapon. After my stint behind the wheel of three C-Class Coupe examples, I’m confident in its survival. If there’s blood in the water, it’s not likely to be tri-star red.

Pricing will be announced later this year.
