Will there be Blood?
Bold design statement
The C-Class Coupe exhibits plenty of Mercedes-Benz tradition—emphasized by the unmistakable tri-star emblem centre-punching the grille—while managing to convey a youthful, sporty image that should prove attractive to multiple generations.

Although the cabin of the C-Class Coupe is all Mercedes of late, it’s a high-quality exercise that provides plenty of room front and rear. A broad selection of trim choices are available to personalize the interior surroundings, while the full AMG treatment is also available.

It should be noted that the C-Class Coupe only has two rear seating positions. I doubt this will be much of an issue, though, given the vehicle’s intended market, which is not that served by the minivan segment.

Accessing the rear seat of many coupes can be a contortionist’s dream—or nightmare depending on perspective—but not so with the C-Class. A single lever tilts the seatback of the front seat and powers the perch forward to provide fairly easy ingress and egress.

And once settled into the comfort and support which German auto seats are renowned for, the real pleasure begins.

Behind the wheel
While in Spain, I had the opportunity to drive the C180, the C350 and the C63 AMG. My findings on the C63 AMG will be covered in a separate review. Given the similarity between the C180 and the C250 (1.8-litre 4-cylinder engines), I will provide some brief commentary on the C180, which I believe would be equally applicable to the more-powerful C250 version.

The C180 developed impressive low-end torque for a gas engine of its size. This enabled it to pull easily away from a stop and keep up with highway traffic. Passing performance on the highway was certainly respectable, bearing in mind context. This is not a powerhouse due to its rating of 156 horsepower, but it’s a remarkably smooth, refined engine that's engaging and satisfying in nearly all driving scenarios.
