The new Beetle, not to be confused with the old New Beetle, will carry a base MSRP of $21,975 in Canada.

That’s for a Beetle Comfortline with a 170-hp, 2.5-litre 5-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. Standard features will include 16-inch alloy wheels, power heated mirrors, A/C, heated front seats, cruise control, a CD/MP3 player as well as traction and stability control systems.

The $24,225 Highline adds 17-inch alloys, ambient interior lighting, sport cloth upholstery, fog lamps, an intelligent key system and a trip computer, while the $29,025 Sportline gets the GTI’s 200-hp TSI engine and 6-speed stick, 18-inch wheels, red-painted brake calipers, leather upholstery, a sport suspension and a rear spoiler.

Options will include a 6-speed automatic with manual mode (Comfortline, Highline), a 6-speed double-clutch gearbox (Sportline), a Connectivity Package (iPod integration, USB port, Bluetooth connectivity) and a Technology Package (navigation, Fender premium sound system).

However, the first 600 units shipped to Canada will be limited-edition versions called Beetle Premiere and Premiere+. Available only with the 2.5L engine and 6-speed automatic, the $24,475 Premiere includes the Highline trim’s content as well as leatherette upholstery and a limited number of exterior colours, while the $27,975 Premiere+ gets the Sportline’s wheels, the Connectivity and Technology Packages as well as a power panoramic sunroof.

The 2012 Beetle’s arrival in showrooms is scheduled for October.
