Lighter and more muscular roadster remains ever so stylish
The all-new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 has been revealed a few weeks before officially debuting at Detroit's NAIAS in January. Lighter yet more powerful than ever, the car is scheduled to arrive in showrooms next spring.

The new model stands 1.97'' longer and 2.24'' wider than its predecessor, although glaring visual similarities remain. Designers did revise the headlights and taillights, while adding new LEDs as daytime running lights and emphasizing the car's sportiness through a tauter body.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL's power retractable hard top, which folds away in less than 20 seconds, will optionally offer a transparent roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL that switches between clear and opaque at the push of a button.

Meanwhile, the lavish cockpit boasts more room as well as remarkable fit and finish, highlighted by some of the finest materials including exclusive leather and wood trims.

Under the hood lies a new 4.6L twin-turbo V8 engine which produces 429 horsepower (+12%) and 516 lb-ft of torque (+32%). The German automaker even promises higher fuel economy on top of that.

The extra output, combined with the 275-lb weight reduction (through extensive use of aluminum), allows the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 to sprint from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 4.5 seconds.
