Pros and Cons*
Pros

The exterior design of the 2013 MINI Cooper Clubman is both unique and refined. Its low centre of gravity and precise handling procure true driving pleasure. The handy splitdoor tailgate makes for easy loading and unloading, and the impeccable fit and finish and high-quality materials deserve high praise.

Cons
On the flipside, the different trim packages and the extensive list of available options quickly inflate the MSRP. Its noisy interior, poor instrument layout and harsh suspension disappoint.

Price
The 2013 MINI Cooper Clubman MSRP starts at $24,950. Its normally-aspirated engine pumps out 121 horsepower. The base package includes: Bluetooth connectivity, start/stop button, chrome grille, three-spoke leather trimmed sport steering wheel, and 16-inch wheels. An optional automatic transmission can be added for $1200. Different trim packages are also available.

The 2013 MINI Cooper S Clubman MSRP starts at $29,950. The S model comes equipped with: black mesh sport front grille, bi- xenon headlights, stainless-steel footrest and 17-inch wheels.

The John Cooper Works model starts at $38,400. It is instantly recognizable with its chrome-tipped dual-exhaust, 17-inch dual-spoke wheels, contrasting roof panel caps and distinctive red-striped trim inserts. The electronic differential and larger brakes provide a much sportier ride than its siblings.

Fuel consumption
Base model fuel-economy ratings are pegged at 7.4 L/100 km city and 5.7 L/100 km highway, for an average 6.6 L/100 km. The MINI Cooper Clubman S is rated at 7.8 L/100 km city and 5.6 L/100 km highway, for a combined 6 8 L/100 km rating.

7, 2 L/100 km combined is what you can expect from the Clubman John Cooper Works, which is derived from its 9.5 L/100 km city and 5.8 L/100 km highway rating.

Exterior design
This Clubman's clever asymmetric design provides two convenient right-side passenger doors as well as a single driver-side entrance. The MINI Clubman's innovative hinged rear tail gate, chrome grille, and optional outer and inner trim accents make it uniquely stylish, with numerous options available for those who like to add their own ''personal'' touch. The vertical tail gate openings facilitate loading. The overall Clubman length is approximately 25 cm more than the standard MINI Cooper.

Drivetrain
The base model 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine produces 121 hp and 118 ft-lb. of torque. Add turbocharging to the S model, and the output increases to 181 hp and 177 ft-lb. of torque, with the JCW engine delivering both 208 hp and 192 ft-lb. of torque.

Power is delivered through either a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional semi-automatic six speed gearbox.

Luggage capacity
The 2013 MINI Cooper Clubman provides 260 litres of luggage space.

Security
Security is provided by an array of active safety systems and six airbags. Standard run-flat tires provide a smooth ride and added convenience, while its ultra-stiff chassis and adaptive headlights protect its occupants.
