Pros and Cons*
Pros

The 2013 Sedan Nissan Versa is the least expensive new car on the market. Ample roominess and large trunk, not to mention the latest in under-the-hood technology, are all positives.

Cons
However, the base model is strictly bare bones. A low buck interior, poor handling on occasion, bad soundproofing and insipid performance reflect its bottom-feeder status.

Price
The base model Versa S, starts as low as $11,898. Trim includes 15-inch steel wheels, an AM/FM/CD/AUX audio system, powered side mirrors and basic safety devices. The 5-speed manual transmission is the only one available for this model.

The SV version is priced from $14,198 and up.
Standard features include chrome grille, handles and side strips, power windows and locking, air conditioning as well as insulated hood and acoustic windscreen.

The Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is optional for $1,300 more.

The SL offers 15-inch alloy wheels, foglights, hands-free Bluetooth phone system, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, iPod and MP3 connectivity and rearview camera.

It’s all yours for $16,998 and comes with the Xtronic CVT.

Fuel Economy

For manual version, you’ll get an 7.3 L/100 km around town and 5.4 L/100 km for highway driving. The CVT transmission gives the best results: 6.1 L/100 km in the city and 4.7 L/100 km on the highway.

Recent Improvements and New in 2013
In 2012, the grille was redesigned
In 2013:
- Spoiler installed on CVT models
- SL version equipped with rear-view back-up camera

Exterior Styling

The Versa shares the same wheelbase as the 2012 hatchback model, but is actually a little longer. Its front end is pleasing due to the well-integrated headlights and chrome-plated grille, giving it a signature look. And the extra overhang at the back means a more spacious trunk.

Power train

Under the hood of this sub-compact you’ll find a 1.6 L 4-cylinder engine cranking out 109 hp and 107 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheels drive S version is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. The SV offers the choice between manual or the Tonic CVT. For its part, the SL comes standard with the CVT transmission.

Cargo Capacity
The Versa boosts load volume 20 to 50 litres more than its competitors – up to 419 litres are available.

Safety
Standard safety features for all versions including six airbags.
