Pros: The Forte Koup is now powered by the same engines and wears the same clothes as its sedan sibling. Good looks and turbo power make the Koup a fun choice.

Cons: Cost of entry is much higher than the Forte sedan as the Forte Koup is not available in a base trim. Prices start at over $20,000. For comparison, the Hyundai Elantra Coupe and Honda Civic Coupe can both be had for over $1,000 less to start.

2014 Kia Forte Koup Pricing: The Forte Koup starts at $20,995 for the EX manual-equipped model and $22,195 for the six-speed automatic with Active ECO. SX models replace the 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four and cost $23,695. Automatic-equipped SX models are $1,200 more at $24,895. The tippy-top SX Luxury automatic will run you $28,295.

2014 Kia Forte Koup Economy: Equipped with the new, more powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, the Forte Koup is rated at 9.0/6.1L (city/highway) per 100 km with the manual transmission or 8.9/6.0L per 100 km with the six-speed automatic. Turbo 1.6-litre models are rated at 9.4/6.8L per 100 km for the manual and 9.3/6.6L per 100 km for the automatic.

Improvements and Changes: Arriving a year after its four-door brother, the Forte Koup has undergone a complete overhaul. With crisp, flowing lines and a new family of engines, the Koup is an ultra-competitive choice in a very small compact coupe market.

Don’t Miss: While the Forte Koup may have a higher starting price than its competitors, namely its platform twin Hyundai Elantra, the Kia may actually be a better value when loaded up with options. Even the entry EX model is equipped with Kia’s UVO infotainment system.

2014 Kia Forte Koup Powertrain: The Forte Koup is given the same engines as its sedan sibling sharing the same name. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder is the base engine, producing 173 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. SX models are equipped with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, cranking output to 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Both six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions are available.

Safety: The Kia Forte Koup comes standard with six airbags (front, front seat-mounted side, and side curtain) available on all trims. Vehicle Stability Management, Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control Systems comes as standard on all trims as well.

Comparables: Our compact coupe selection in Canada is not what it once was. The Koup’s closest competitor is the Hyundai Elantra Coupe. The only other competitor is the Honda Civic Coupe.
